Payroll Giving

Each month nearly two out of every three of us give to a charity and giving regularly to your favourite charity is an excellent way to help others.

What is Payroll Giving?

Payroll Giving is a flexible scheme which allows employees, including pensioners, paid through PAYE to give regularly and on a tax free basis to a charity of their choice.

How does Payroll Giving work?

Providing your employer offers Payroll Giving, all you need to do is authorise your employer to deduct regular charitable donations from your pay. Your employer then pays these donations to a Payroll Giving agency approved by the Inland Revenue. The agency then distributes the money to the Yorkshire Charities Group.

What are the benefits of Payroll giving?

For you: Payroll giving donations are deducted before tax, so each £10 you give will only cost you £7.80. If you are a higher taxpayer, it will only cost you £6. Payroll giving is also very simple to do.
For the Yorkshire Charities Group: The main benefit of Payroll giving is to create a regular flow of funds for the member charities.

How can I find out if my employer offers Payroll giving?

Simply ask your employer's payroll department. If you would like further information about Payroll Giving, check out the Inland Revenue website at: www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/payrollgiving.

How do I know that the Yorkshire Charities Group has received my donation?

Your support is very important to us and as soon as we receive notification of your donation, we will write to thank you. We will also keep you informed about our work by sending you our annual newsletter.

How much should I give?

You can give any amount you choose, from £1 per week.

Can I stop Payroll Giving when I want to?

Yes, at any time. Simply tell your employer's payroll department.
